The Dallas Cowboys will be looking to finally get past the divisional round of the playoffs in 2022. While Dak Prescott undoubtedly needs to have a big year, Ezekiel Elliott also must be more productive in the Cowboys backfield.

Remember, Zeke was one of the running backs in the game in his early years in the league but he's struggled to find that previous brilliance, which resulted in him being left off the top-10 of ESPN's RB rankings. In Shannon Sharpe's eyes, that's not surprising. In fact, he harshly criticized the Cowboys star in the process.

Via The Undisputed:

Sharpe claims Ezekiel Elliott is incapable of recapturing what he previously did in the NFL because he's now in Year 7. Running backs don't usually find their form again at this point in their careers. Sharpe does have a point.

Zeke barely registered 1,000 rushing yards in 2021 and finished with only 979 the season before that. He's clearly lost a pep in his step and in all fairness, doesn't exactly deserve to be ranked within the top-10.

To put his downward spiral into perspective, the Cowboys RB averaged 108.7 yards per game in his rookie year in 2016. Last season, he averaged just 58.9. Nevertheless, Dallas will be praying Zeke can dig deep and find his best again. If not, Tony Pollard will continue to get a lot of touches as well.

Let's hope Ezekiel Elliott can make Shannon Sharpe eat his words and show out in the 2022 season. Dallas fans would surely be ecstatic if he did. Time to eat.
