The Dallas Cowboys and quarterback Dak Prescott had almost a year to come to an agreement on a long term contract extension, but still couldn’t come to a new deal.

That resulted in the Cowboys applying their franchise tag on the fifth-year quarterback. But even if the team enters the 2020 season with some uncertainty, one man has already voiced his support for the signal-caller, and his may be the only voice that matters.

No less than Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones was all praises for Prescott, saying that they are committed to him. In an interview with 105.3 The Fan (via 247 Sports), the 77-year old team owner said that he sees Prescott as part of their future.

“Dak doesn't need to do anything more to solidify his status with the Cowboys. He doesn't need to do anything more at all. Candidly, he's had that. That's not an issue.”

Prescott signed the franchise tag that will pay him $31.4 million for the upcoming season. However, agreeing to the franchise tag also means that the two sides cannot revisit talks of a contract extension until after the regular season, leaving the possibility that the Mississippi State product could test free agency.

Prescott, for his part, has also declared his intention to stay in Dallas, saying that he wants to retire as a Cowboy, according to a report by USA Today’s Jori Epstein.

In the 2019 season, which was Prescott’s fourth year under center, the Cowboys had an up and down year, limping to an 8-8 record and narrowly missing the playoffs. He finished with 4,902 passing yards, 30 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. At the end of the season, Jones did not renew coach Jason Garrett’s contract, with the Cowboys entering the 2020 season with new head coach Mike McCarthy.
