Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones appeared on 105.3 The Fan on Friday morning to discuss the status of his team after the Cowboys' latest loss to the Chicago Bears, and this time, he backed up Jason Garrett.

But he kind of did it just to back up his own self.

When talking about Garrett, Jones said “you've got to remember that if you quit on your coach, you quit on yourself.”

Basically, Jones is saying that if he fires Garrett, he is essentially acknowledging the fact that he made a mistake by keeping him around to begin with.

So, this it not really a ringing endorsement for Garrett so much as it is Jones covering his own behind.

It's no secret that Garrett is on the hot seat in Dallas.

The Cowboys have lost three straight games and seven of their last 10 overall to fall to 6-7 on the season. Dallas remains in first place in the NFC East, but that is primarily due to the ineptitude of the Philadelphia Eagles, who just lost to the Miami Dolphins last weekend and are 5-7 heading into their Week 14 matchup with the New York Giants.

While the Cowboys weren't considered favorites to make the Super Bowl, they were considered darkhorse contenders by some going into 2019, and they certainly played the part of the first three weeks of the season, looking dominant in a 3-0 start.

But since then, Dallas has fallen flat, and Garrett has clearly lost the team.

Barring a miraculous run to the Super Bowl, Garrett is certainly coaching on borrowed time right now.
