Jerry Jones is a man of few uncertainties. Owner of the Dallas Cowboys, one of the world's biggest sports franchises, Jones has no room to move shyly. That means when Jones' decisions are put into speculation, he is quick to set things straight. NFL media got another taste of this following rumors that Sean Payton could be a candidate to replace Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy.

Since departing from New Orleans, Sean Payton has been linked to multiple head coaching jobs, most recently with the Cowboys. Jones provided comment on the situation, expressing his confidence in current HC Mike McCarthy.

It's clear Jones thinks McCarthy has Super Bowl potential, a dream Payton has already realized with the Saints. Jones wasn't having the comparisons, however.

“It shouldn't be a conversation right now as to where Mike is relative to Sean Payton,” Jones said. “It shouldn't be there. I don't have that there any place in my mind.”

Across two seasons in Dallas, McCarthy has earned an 18-15 record and were booted from the wild card round of the playoffs this season. The Cowboys' season ender came on a botched final play, which wound up conversations on McCarthy in the first place.

There's no question McCarthy can bring a team to a title, a feat he's accomplished before. Fans and media alike must be cautious to not jump ship after two mediocre seasons. Jones has kept faith and the Cowboys have potential headed into this year's NFL season.

This time next year, people will revisit the McCarthy conversation one way or another. Time will tell who was on the right side of history, if it's even possible to decipher at that point.
