J.J. Watt was officially released by the Houston Texans on Friday, allowing him to sign wherever he wants this offseason. With Watt likely looking to join a contending franchise, DeMarcus Lawrence of the Dallas Cowboys is attempting to recruit him to remain in Texas.

Upon his release from the Texans, Watt has drawn interest from around the league from plenty of teams. The teams who have been rumored as likely landing spots are the Cleveland Browns, the Green Bay Packers, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Buffalo Bills.
While JJ Watt could help the Cowboys, it remains to be seen what his role would look like in Dan Quinn's defense. Plus, Dallas doesn't have much cap space to make a deal for Watt work unless he's willing to take a massive discount to join the club.
Of course, the main focus for Dallas this offseason is to get a long-term deal in place for Dak Prescott. If the Cowboys can't get a multi-year contract done with Prescott, then they plan on placing their franchise tag on him for the second straight year.
Watt, who turns 32 years old in March, notched five sacks, seven pass breakups, and two forced fumbles in his 10th season with the Texans in 2020. Even though he isn't the same dominant edge rusher he once was, Watt can still be effective for any defensive front in the league.
There were plenty of players to reach out to JJ Watt on social media in hopes they can convince him to join them this offseason. While Watt mulls over his options, Lawrence wants Watt to know that he'd be a welcomed addition for the Cowboys.
