With the 2020 NFL season just over a week away, teams are making their final adjustments following an unprecedented offseason of preparation due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Regardless, the Dallas Cowboys appear to be taking a cautious approach with wide receiver Amari Cooper.

Cooper's notable absence from practice this week started to raise some red flags coming out of training camp. According to ESPN's Ed Werder, head coach Mike McCarthy provided a positive update of Cooper's status.

Although McCarthy chose to remain coy with the overall nature of the injury, his comments indicate that Cooper does not seem to be in jeopardy missing the season opener against the Los Angeles Rams.

While the Cowboys are taking precautions with Cooper, this should open the door for some of the players on the roster bubble to get some quality reps in before the season starts. Cedrick Wilson and Noah Brown are among those that should benefit the most from his absence as they continue to fight for a spot in the receiving corps.

Dallas has generated plenty of hype with their new trio of wideouts in Cooper, Michael Gallup and rookie CeeDee Lamb. With no shortage of firepower on offense, McCarthy is well aware of the expectations that have come with his arrival. As a result, he is taking steps to ensure that this group remains as healthy as possible for a potential Super Bowl run this season.
