During the course of the weekend, a report sprouted that Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett had made multiple attempts to lure former star tight end Jason Witten out of retirement to rejoin the team this season.

Team owner Jerry Jones has since refuted these rumors, but that hasn't stopped the chatter around the situation. BetOnline.ag has jumped into the conversation by putting odds that Witten could return to the team for the 2019 season.

Although Witten had reportedly voiced that he is committed to his gig with ESPN on their Monday Night Football broadcast team, this conversation now leaves the door open for next season. Prior to deciding to step away, the 36-year-old had shown that he could continue to play at a high level after stringing together another strong year where he recorded 63 catches for 560 receiving yards and five touchdowns while playing in all 16 regular season games for the 14th consecutive year. He had also recorded more than 60 catches and more than 550 receiving yards in each campaign over that stretch.

Witten has already put together a Hall of Fame-worthy career where he currently ranks second all-time in career catches and receiving yards by tight ends, only trailing Tony Gonzalez. Witten is also 21st all-time in receiving yards (12,448) and fourth in receptions (1,152). He is also second on the Cowboys in receptions, third in total receiving yards, and second in touchdown catches.

The only stone unturned was the absence of a Super Bowl win, which had never had the opportunity to play in a Super Bowl in his illustrious NFL career. This could be the only ploy that likely could work to push him to return to the Cowboys, which doesn't look like it is enough at this point as he has remained committed to his new job. Nonetheless, the possibility certainly remains out there.
