Stop me if you've heard this one before, but Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee is dealing with an injury. A source told Todd Archer of ESPN.com that Lee has a minor MCL sprain in his right knee. Archer also added that Cowboys coach Jason Garrett has said that the injury won't require surgery, but “clearly Cowboys will be cautious with Lee.”

“Sean Lee tweaked his knee a little bit [Monday],” Garrett explained to reporters, per Charean Williams of ProFootballTalk.com. “He missed [practice Tuesday] for that reason. We’ll take his situation day by day. We don’t think his situation is serious, but we felt like it was better to give him a little time.”

Lee has always been a very talented player but has consistently had poor injury luck. Last year, the Penn State product missed nine games as he took somewhat of a backseat behind Leighton Vander Esch and Jaylon Smith in the linebacking corp. All told, Lee has missed 51 games in his nine seasons in the league.

The Cowboys have made it clear all along that Lee, 33 now, won't play as large of a role in 2019. Lee is a Cowboys legend and an undisputed leader of the team, so he'll mostly be counted on for his veteran presence.

There was some talk that Lee might hang up his cleats after last season, but he ultimately decided to come back for at least one more campaign. Instead of playing in the middle like he used to, Lee has been practicing a lot at strong-side linebacker during camp.
