The Dallas Cowboys were able to secure some quality depth with the addition of former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton. It seems executive vice president Stephen Jones has already started to feel the benefits of having a surplus of talent under center.

The Cowboys got to witness firsthand the importance of having a viable contingency plan at the game's most important position when the Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl with a combination of quarterback Carson Wentz and Nick Foles. According to ESPN's Todd Archer, Jones is confident that they now have the same dynamic with Dalton:

“To have a guy like Andy Dalton come in here — not unlike what Philly had with Nick Foles when Carson Wentz went down — to be able to take control and win games, win huge games for you if that’s what you need is really important. Certainly you can lay your head on the pillow better at night knowing you have someone like Andy Dalton.”

Dalton has spent his career as the franchise quarterback in Cincinnati. Although his stint may have ended in underwhelming fashion, he does bring plenty of valuable experience that include multiple trips to the playoffs.

The Cowboys still have yet to secure quarterback Dak Prescott for the long haul; however, they did take every action to ensure his supporting cast on offense remains top-notch heading into the 2020 NFL season. Bringing in a veteran like Dalton to serve as a stabilizing factor behind him should also help pay huge dividends for his progression.

Expectations remain as high as ever in Dallas amid all the significant changes to the coaching staff. While Jones is hoping that the day never comes where they must use Dalton, the security he provides for the front office has already got into effect.
