Dallas Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones believes that the team will get Dak Prescott signed ‘at the right number' for both the franchise and the quarterback. Jones made an appearance on SportsCenter with Scott VanPelt to talk about all things Cowboys. The extension with Prescott was topic No. 1 because it still hasn't been resolved.

Prescott and the Cowboys have until July 15 to work out a long term deal, or he will have to play the 2020 season on the franchise tag. Jones said they feel good about their track record of getting long term deals done.

Said Jones,

“We believe in our track record of getting players signed. I totally believe we’ll get Dak signed at the right number that’s good for Dak, good for the Cowboys, good for the team …So we’re all motivated, we’re all motivated to win. We certainly want Dak to be happy, but we also want to surround him with great football players.”

It is a thin line to draw for the Cowboys who want to keep Prescott happy with the money they give him, but also want to make sure they have plenty of salary cap room left to surround him with the type of talent they need to be a Super Bowl contender. Prescott is set to make $31 million on the franchise tag, but it's clear he would rather have the long term stability while also likely getting more guaranteed money.

All signs are still pointing towards a deal getting done before the deadline, but it's possible the minor details could be sticking point in the negotiations.
