Taco Charlton isn't beating around the bush.

After being inactive for the first two games of the regular season, the Dallas Cowboys' defensive lineman voiced his desire to move on from the team on social media, responding with “Free me” in response to a tweet that included justification from management as to why he's yet to take the field. Shortly thereafter, Charlton made it clear that he felt as if he was exhausting his final avenue of coercion by publicly calling for the Cowboys to waive or trade him.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Sunday morning that the Cowboys had recently engaged in trade talks regarding the 2017 first-round pick. While nothing is imminent in discussions with interested teams, Schefter indicated they could “heat up” this week.

Charlton failed to make his mark during his first two seasons in the league following a standout career at Notre Dame. He didn't start a single as a rookie, finishing his debut campaign with 19 tackles, three sacks, and seven hits on the opposing quarterback. Charlton played a bigger role last season but failed to improve upon those pedestrian numbers. Starting seven games of the 11 games in which he appeared in 2018, he had 27 tackles, one sack, and four quarterback hits.

Dallas is riding high after an impressive start to the regular season. Fueled by MVP-level play from quarterback Dak Prescott, who's been buoyed by the play-calling of first-year offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, the Cowboys are 2-0, winning games the New York Giants and Washington Redskins by double-digits.
