Despite hardly playing in Week 1, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Tavon Austin is dealing with an injury. Head coach Jason Garrett announced that Austin did not practice Wednesday and that his status is day-to-day, via Pro Football Talk.

“He had concussion symptoms coming out of the game, so we’ll just take his situation day by day, to be honest with you, he continued to feel some symptoms after the game. It wasn’t something that he needed to come out of the game for. So we just have to be mindful of that and take care of it.” Garrett said Wednesday.

The injury isn't exactly a crushing blow to Dallas, even if Austin ends up missing some time. The former Los Angeles Ram is rarely utilized on offense and plays mostly on special teams. The Cowboys have plenty of options lined up to replace him as a punt returner, starting with veteran receiver Randall Cobb. Cobb returned plenty of punts during his time with the Green Bay Packers, so there's no cause for concern here.

While Austin is mostly used in the return game, he does play an interesting gadget role for the Dallas offense. He will often take end-around handoffs, as well as play both running back and receiver. This skill set doesn't seem like it comes around every day, but Dallas has the perfect replacement. Rookie Tony Pollard played running back and receiver during his time in college, and has impressed the Cowboys coaching staff. If Austin does miss time, expect Pollard to fill in his offensive responsibilities.
