The Dallas Cowboys seem to be leaning toward promoting from within to fill their now-vacant offensive coordinator position.

First, a report surfaced that the Cowboys could elevate tight ends coach Doug Nussmeier to the role. Now, there are rumors that Dallas could promote quarterbacks coach Kellen Moore, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

This falls right in line with the Cowboys' interest in former signal-caller Jon Kitna, whom they are considering for their quarterbacks coach.

Given the fact that Moore currently holds that position and that Dallas is certainly not going to part ways with Moore, it only takes some simple math to realize that the Cowboys may be giving serious consideration to awarding Moore with offensive play-calling duties.

Moore, who actually started two games under center for Dallas in 2015, was hired as the team's quarterbacks coach for the 2018 campaign, marking his first NFL coaching job.

The 30-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Boise State University, went undrafted in 2012 but signed with the Detroit Lions as a free agent.

Over three seasons with the Lions, Moore never actually played in an NFL game before finally landing with the Cowboys in September 2015. Due to an injury to Tony Romo and poor play from backup quarterbacks Brandon Weeden and Matt Cassel, Moore was able to get two starts for Dallas that season, throwing for 779 yards, four touchdowns and six interceptions while completing 58.7 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 71.

The Cowboys won 10 games and captured the NFC East title this past season and were eliminated by the Los Angeles Rams in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.
