Now that the Dallas Cowboys are heading towards the release of Amari Cooper, they need to find a way to supplant their depth at the wide receiver position.

With Michael Gallup, Cedrick Wilson and Dalton Schultz hitting the open market, Pro Bowler CeeDee Lamb is the only key receiver the Cowboys have under contract and healthy. They need to get right to work restocking the offense with pass-catching threats for Dak Prescott.

According to Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, the Cowboys are looking to lock Gallup into a long-term contract and are making it a priority.

Gallup has been a reliable secondary wide receiver with the Cowboys, posing at least 800 receiving yards and five touchdowns in the two full seasons he started in. Last season, in nine games, he recorded 35 receptions, 445 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

The issue with relying on Gallup is that he is coming off of knee surgery. Although he should be back in time for training camp, he may be rusty in the regular season. Lamb has been tremendous but if the Cowboys can't find other receivers to surround him with, their offense will suffer mightily.

Overall, the Cowboys have a lot of work to do in order to keep their roster together. They have a laundry list of free agents and now a gaping hole on the wide receiver spot on their depth chart. Gallup could step up as a dependable second option for Prescott, even if he won't be as productive as Cooper.
