The future of Dak Prescott with the Dallas Cowboys is a bit murky after he suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 5. Despite the uncertainty of his future, Dallas plans to franchise tag Prescott again in 2021, per Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

In one of the saddest moments of the 2020 season, Prescott was seen being carted off of the field against the New York Giants in Week 5. The two-time Pro Bowler sustained a compound fracture in his ankle and went season-ending surgery to repair the ankle.

Upon his exit, many began pondering the future of Prescott with the Cowboys. The former fourth-round pick was playing under the franchise tag in 2020 after the Cowboys failed to reach a long-term agreement with him.

And while Dallas has iterated that Prescott is their franchise quarterback moving forward, they may be forced to tag him again in 2021. The injury he suffered in Week 5 certainly isn't going to make getting a multi-year deal any easier for Prescott.

However, if Prescott were to tag Prescott again in 2021, he would be set to make nearly $40 million next season. Under this year's franchise tag, the Mississippi State product will make $31.4 million.

Due to his gruesome ankle injury, Prescott is going to miss the first start of his career in Week 6, proving his reliability at the position. Besides his availability, Prescott has been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL in recent seasons.

Finding a franchise quarterback in the NFL is a tall task and the Cowboys know letting Prescott walk would be a mistake. As a result, Dallas could place their franchise tag on Prescott for the second consecutive season in 2021.
