After an extended time away from football, Dez Bryant found a team that was willing to give him a second chance after the Baltimore Ravens signed him to the practice squad this week.

On the daily Locked On Ravens podcast, host Kevin Oestreicher was joined by Cole Jackson of Russell Street Report to discuss why the Ravens signed Bryant and what the proper expectations should be.

Jackson: I think expectations are key when it comes to Dez Bryant, so I just want to preface this by saying I love the way the Ravens handled this situation. When he came in to tryout back in August, it was right at the end of August, I was pretty impressed. We heard he was out of shape and apparently, he struggled to get through the workout physically, his conditioning level and it is understandable. It is going to be tough to jump right back in it and the Ravens are pretty notorious for the conditioning program. They are pretty known for that conditioning test that we always hear about when you know, Michael Pierce failed it a couple of years ago. It is known for being one of the toughest in the NFL. Mike Wallace has tweeted about it being notoriously tough. The Ravens have high expectations. So, what I think happened, the Ravens said, “Look. You are not in shape. Go get in shape and show us you want it, and we’ll bring you back.” Credit Dez Bryant. He went out and got in shape and he came back and said let’s go, they gave him another look, and they said let’s sign him. Not only impressed with Dez for taking that step on his own but I am impressed with the Ravens and how they handled it. They are not afraid to make this guy earn it. Now that he is on the practice squad, there’s no guarantee of snaps, there’s no guarantee of getting in any games. He must earn it again. So, it’s only going to bring out the best in Dez Bryant.
