The Miami Dolphins have liked what they've seen from tight end Adam Shaheen so far this season. So much so, that the team has signed the 27-year-old to a two-year extension that will keep him in Miami until 2022.

This report comes via NFL insider Adam Schefter:

The Dolphins brought Shaheen on board back in July, trading him from the Chicago Bears in exchange for a conditional sixth-round pick for next years' draft. With the benefit of hindsight, that deal now looks like pennies on the dollar, considering how the former Ashland standout has been playing for Miami this season.

When asked about how he believes Shaheen has performed since his arrival, Dolphins head coach Brian Flores admitted that he has been impressed with Shaheen's work ethic:

“He’s come in. He’s really worked hard. I think he’s been productive over first six weeks of season,” Flores said on Wednesday, via Safid Deen of the South Florida SunSentinel. “He was somebody we wanted to keep around for a few more years.”

Through his hard work and effort, Shaheen has been able to work himself up the pecking order in Miami. He's also been quite good on the field, too, catching one TD pass in the Dolphins' previous two contests. He's also had five receptions in six games this season, amounting to 58 yards.

Injuries have long been an issue for Shaheen, and the same has hampered him in his first three years in the league. He now appears as healthy as ever, and this has resulted in some inspired play.
