The Miami Dolphins may have traded for Josh Rosen to be their quarterback of the future, but that does not mean Rosen is going to win the starting job outright going into 2019.

Rosen is competing with veteran journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick for the opening day job under center, and Dolphins head coach Brian Flores likes what he has seen from Fitzpatrick thus far:

“The first thing I think of is his command of the huddle,” Flores said of Fitzpatrick, according to Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com. “How he works with players — older players, younger players — and his rapport with defensive guys, offensive guys and guys in the kicking game, I think that shows his leadership in a big way. Whoever he is in there with, he's trying to help and improve and get better. I've been very pleased with him.”

Fitzpatrick spent the 2018 campaign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, making seven starts and throwing for 2,366 yards, 17 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while completing 66.7 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 100.4.

The 36-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Harvard, was originally selected by the St. Louis Rams in the seventh round (250th pick overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft.

Since then, Fitzpatrick has played for seven teams, with his longest stretch with one club coming between 2009 and 2012 when he spent four seasons with the Buffalo Bills.

Fitzpatrick's best season, however, came with the New York Jets in 2015, when he finished with 3,905 yards, 31 touchdowns and 15 picks while completing 59.6 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 88.
