The Miami Dolphins came up short once again following their 30-20 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 11. However, backup quarterback Matt Moore provided a pleasant spark in what was an otherwise terrible offensive outing led by starting quarterback Jay Cutler.

Despite Cutler's lackluster performance, head coach Adam Gase was adamant about his status as the starter in Week 12 if he was healthy enough to play.

However, the Dolphins announced that Jay Cutler has been ruled out for their divisional showdown with the New England Patriots, meaning Moore will be under center. According to Dolphins Lead Writer Alan Poupart, Gase is optimistic about this week's opportunity to better prepare Moore:

“I think it was good that he actually got a week to practice considering the last time he got a start we were in a walk-through phase playing a Thursday night game,” Gase said. “I think when Matt goes through a week like this, it’s really beneficial to him because the reps are very few during the season and it just helps kind of speed up his mind-set of how things are going to look, what the actual look — the speed of the looks — are going to be, just kind of how they play. I think it was good for him.”

The lack of first-team reps certainly did hold him back during the second-half of last weeks' matchup versus the Bucs. Moore easily outperformed Cutler's miserable first half where he had already thrown three interceptions before suffering a concussion.

The veteran quarterback went 17-of-28 for 282 yards and a touchdown while Miami fell short of a potential comeback. The Dolphins offense could certainly use some stability after their fluctuating performances in recent weeks, especially against a formidable Patriots team that has now built a comfortable lead atop the AFC East
