The Miami Dolphins are beginning a new era with Brian Flores as their new head coach. Heading into his first season, Flores is going to need leaders to step up. Jerome Baker is turning some heads.

So far in training camp, the Miami coaching staff has said that linebacker Jerome Baker is “definitely emerging as a leader.” That's great news for Dolphins fans who are excited to see what Baker does in his sophomore season in the NFL.

“In my opinion, he’s definitely emerging as a leader,” linebackers coach Rob Leonard said. “He has all of the physical tools — cover, blitz, he can run, he’s physical. He’s starting to really believe all the things that we saw when we first got here, so he’s really emerging.”

Last offseason, Miami took Jerome Baker in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Ohio State. The coaching staff was hoping to get a versatile linebacker. So far, that has been true.

In his rookie season in 2018, Baker showed his versatility by racking up 79 total tackles, three sacks, one interception, and a defensive touchdown. At 6-foot-2, 225 pounds, Baker is an athletic freak at linebacker who provides the Dolphins a capable pass-coverage linebacker.

This season, Baker is expected to line up alongside Raekwon McMillan and Kiko Alonso at strongside linebacker. This was the same role he played last year with the Dolphins.

The Dolphins have a young roster, but that doesn't mean they'll be lacking leadership in 2019.
