As the NFL free agency draws closer, rumors are swirling about the potential landing spots for talented free agents, including Clay Matthews.

According to 247 Sports, the Miami Dolphins are rumored to be interested in the outside linebacker, and have declared him a “free agency fit.”

Marc Sessler of the NFL, in fact, believes that Matthews' move down south — defecting from the Packers — is a foregone conclusion.

“I'm throwing darts here, but this feels like a 2019 Dolphins move to me. Amid whispers the club plans to shy away from its history of dropping mega-millions in free agency, look for the Fins to pad both sides of the ball with more affordable talent. Turning 33 in May and coming off a 3.5-sack campaign, Matthews is no lock to return to Green Bay.”

Whether Clay Matthews sees the move to Miami as a good thing, however, remains to be seen — even though he acknowledges that this is just part of the business.

“That's part of negotiations and figuring out contracts. A player thinks they're worth X amount and the team feels like they're worth this amount and you meet somewhere in the middle. Obviously, with my situation, this is my first time — I'm assuming once this year's over — being a free agent. We'll see what that means moving forward. There's a lot of things in motion with the Packers organization right now as far as head coaches and players and things like that, but we'll see down the line where it all fits and I end up.”
