Defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick is seeking a trade out of the Miami Dolphins, could running back Kenyan Drake be too? Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reported on Sunday's pregame show that the Dolphins are discussing a trade with other teams for Drake.

However, long-time Dolphins insider, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports the opposite, and that “the Miami Dolphins have had zero conversations with any team about trading RB Kenyan Drake.”

Both are reputable sources with historically trustworthy track records.

In the season opener 59-10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Drake ran four times for 12 yards and reeled in two catches for 15 yards. A third-round pick in 2016, the back has recorded 290 carries for 1,370 yards and nine touchdowns and 96 catches for 777 yards and six touchdowns during his Miami tenure.

If the Dolphins were to trade Drake, however, it wouldn't come as much of a surprise. The team isn't saying they're tanking, but they are. In the offseason, they traded away three key offensive starters from the past in QB Ryan Tannehill, LT Laremy Tunsil, and WR Kenny Stills. They also parted ways with DE Robert Quinn and LB Kiko Alonso.

Miami has traded away several starters for a treasure trove of draft picks. The end goal is to be a championship team. As owner Stephen Ross said, via Dave Hyde of the Sun-Sentinel:

“The goal isn’t to try to patch some holes to go 9-7 and make the playoffs. I want to compete for and win Super Bowls. We took an objective look at our situation at the end of last year and realized that we were a long way away from where we need to be… The moves that have been made were all made in the best interest in trying to build a championship organization.”

The Dolphins take on the New England Patriots in Week 2.
