EA Sports, the video game company that produces the popular Madden NFL series, postponed Monday's much- awaited announcement for Madden 21 with bigger priorities in mind.

The company released a statement on Sunday, noting the big reveal wouldn't happen on Monday, June 1 as expected:

“Tomorrow, we had committed to celebrating Madden NFL 21 with you, but we're not going to do that now., We stand with our African American / Black community of friends, players, colleagues and partners. Our immediate attention is on actions we can take to drive change against the unjust treatment and systemic bias that is plaguing the nation and our world.

“We'll find another time to talk football with you. Because this is bigger than a game, bigger than sports, and needs all of us to stand together and commit to change.”

The announcement was supposed to include the official introduction of Baltimore Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson as the cover athlete.

Electronic Arts is hoping people take notice. At times that means disrupting what's expected to call attention to bigger, more important things happening around society.

The Black Lives Matter movement is in great need of support at this moment. The murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis was just the tip of the iceberg of the countless senseless deaths caused by police brutality in the United States.

EA Sports is using its platform to call for awareness and action, as the joystick can wait a more days, especially when there are lives at risk.
