Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz is six weeks removed from suffering torn ACL and LCL that prematurely ended his 2017 season.

In that span, Wentz has continued to make progress in his recovery from the injuries. According to Lee Bowen of The Philadelphia Inquirer, the 25-year-old has voiced much confidence that he will be able to get on the field in time for the season opener for the 2018 campaign.

Wentz has taken another major step forward in his rehab earlier this week as he was seen walking around without the use of a cane. However, he was still wearing a bulky brace around his injured left leg to help him get around.

Although the start of the 2018 season is still many months away, Wentz's optimism about the situation is an encouraging sign. The injury he suffered is typically one that takes around nine months to a year to fully recover. There should be a clearer picture of the recovery process over the next few months as a target date could become more realistic to place one.

Prior to suffering this serious knee injury, Wentz had demonstrated significant progress in his development on the field this past season, one in which he was widely viewed as being the frontrunner for the MVP award. At the time of the injury, he led the NFL with 33 touchdown passes while ranking among the leaders with 3,296 passing yards. Despite missing the last three games of the season, he has also led the NFL with a 74.4 total quarterback rating (QBR).

In the meantime, Wentz has shifted his attention toward helping Nick Foles prepare for Super Bowl 52 against the New England Patriots on Feb.4. Foles is coming off one of his best performances of his career completing 26-of-33 passes for 352 yards and three touchdown passes with a 141.4 passer rating against the Minnesota Vikings in a 38-7 win for the NFC crown.
