The Philadelphia Eagles were dealt a devastating blow on Sunday, falling to the Seattle Seahawks by a score of 17-9 and missing an opportunity to draw even with the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC East.

Carson Wentz had his latest shaky outing in the defeat, completing 33 of his 45 throws for 256 yards, a touchdown and a couple of interceptions. He also fumbled twice.

Over the last two weeks, the Eagles have scored just 19 points combined, and while Philadelphia is dealing with some injuries in its receiving corps, Wentz knows he has to be better the rest of the way:

“I have to be better,” Wentz said, according to Reuben Frank of NBC Sports Philadelphia. “I have to lead the team better. I have to protect the football better. We can’t put it on the ground the way we did. It starts with me. I’m frustrated. I know everyone is frustrated with this loss offensively. I’ve got to be better. … The defense played great again, and we let them down.”

Of course, the Eagles are without wide receiver DeSean Jackson, who is out for the year as a result of core muscle surgery. They have also been sans fellow wide out Alshon Jeffery the last two games, as he has been nursing an ankle injury.

But that doesn't excuse Wentz, a former MVP candidate, for his lackluster play. Neither does the hand injury that led to him getting X-rays during the second half of the loss on Sunday, as Wentz, who returned and didn't miss a play, said that wasn't the reason for his poor outing.

Whatever the case may be, Wentz needs to be much better going forward, or Philly will likely find itself on the outside looking in once the playoffs roll around.
