The Philadelphia Eagles came up short in the NFC Divisional Round versus the New Orleans Saints. All eyes will now be on what the Eagles do with backup quarterback Nick Foles.

It had been widely assumed that Foles would buy his way into free agency this offseason. According to ESPN's Tim McManus, the Eagles may look to franchise tag him instead to try and get something in return.

The Eagles can control Foles' rights by placing the franchise tag on him. The window to tag players is Feb. 19 to March 5.

The move certainly makes sense for the Eagles. The team has already mentioned on numerous occasions that they have committed to Carson Wentz as their long-term quarterback. Although Wentz is still their franchise player, it would not make sense for them to let an asset like Foles go for nothing.

Placing the franchise designation on Foles would come with a whopping $25 million price tag. The fact that they cannot afford to pay that money to a backup may rob them of some leverage when it comes to negotiations. However, that could very well change if there are a number of potential suitors. Fortunately, it is safe to assume that the market is shaping up quite nicely for Foles given the state of the quarterback landscape in the NFL.

There are not many former Super Bowl MVP's up for grabs these days. Foles' performance down the final stretch of the 2018 campaign proved that it was no fluke. The Eagles would be wise to capitalize while they still can.
