It appears as though veteran quarterback Nick Foles will be using his leverage to his advantage this offseason. The Philadelphia Eagles backup quarterback will reportedly become a free agent by voiding the final year of his now former contract, which could force Philadelphia into making a very tough decision sometime in the near future.

According to a Tuesday evening report from Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, Foles is gearing up to become an unrestricted free agent — if the Eagles don't slap him with the franchise tag, that is.

“Sources: Eagles QB Nick Foles is, in fact, buying back his freedom for $2M, voiding the new and final year of his contract,” Rapoport is reporting. “Now, he’s a free agent… unless Philly hits him with the roughly $25M franchise tag.”

Earlier in the evening, the Eagles picked up Foles' team option for the 2019-20, which was all Philadelphia could do in that situation without simply parting ways with their savior under center.

“Now that the Eagles have made their expected move by picking up QB Nick Foles’ $20M option, it’s now his turn,” Rapoport previously said on Tuesday. “Foles is likely to buy back his freedom with $2M of the dollars he earned from incentives. After that, Philly is considering the franchise tag to trade him.”

Foles, of course, infamously led the Eagles to a Super Bowl title in 2017-18 in the absence of oft-injured signal caller Carson Wentz. Not only that, but Foles led the NFC East powerhouse back to the playoffs this past season.
