Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts had a promising sophomore campaign in the NFL this past season, which caught the attention of Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons.

Hurts only featured in one regular season meeting against the Cowboys in the 2021 campaign, which Dallas had the last laugh in with the 41-21 home win in Week 3.

Overall, as he reflected to CBS Sports, Parsons came away from the encounter against the Hurts-led Eagles offense impressed with how the former Oklahoma Sooners passer was cool, calm, and collected when anchoring plays.

“I liked his confidence and composure,” Parsons said.

Over the recent season, Hurts showcased a multitude of times his ability to extend plays outside the pocket. Whether it was scrambling out of pressure while in the backfield to find any breathing room on the field or simply taking off for a crucial gain on the ground, the former College Football Playoff national champion sure helped to add another dimension to the Eagles offense over the course of the season.

Parsons much believes that the Eagles have a quality quarterback with Hurts.

“Along with his ability to extend plays,” Parsons said. “He never let anything get to him. I think he is going to be a very good player.”

Parsons has well been aware of the versatile prowess of Hurts for quite some time now. Even before he faced off against him for the first time, the Cowboys linebacker knew on just what makes Hurts a unique quarterback in the NFL today.

“He's a great threat,” Parsons said in September ahead of the Cowboys' Week 3 home clash against the Eagles. “You look at players who [are] changing the game of football like Lamar or Herbert, Hurts. Just the mobility of them getting outside the pocket to extend plays. You've got to learn how to contain them.

“You've got to do some stunts. You've got to box and cage them into that thing so they can't go nowhere. … Great player. You look at him through Alabama to Oklahoma. He's always been a threat with his legs and you've got to learn how to slow him down and spy him up a little bit. Get to him, get him off his point to where he won't want to come out of the box.”

For now, the Eagles have a task ahead to build around Hurts in the offseason. Although there has been much outside speculation that the Eagles may be open to pursuing a new starting quarterback in the offseason, general manager Howie Roseman, as he noted in his end-of-season press conference, has an aim to put pieces around Hurts who will help to exploit his potential.

“I think for us, we have to do whatever we can to continue to help him develop,” Roseman said. “And how do we do that? By surrounding him with really good players, players who continue to grow. That’s a huge part of developing, they grow. How they are in their second year is not how they are going to be in year four, five, six and seven. And they are also products of the people around them. That’s on us to continue to build this team.”

It will be noteworthy to see on just how the Eagles front office plans to bolster the offense for Hurts in the offseason.
