Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz may be able to make his return to the football field as early as their Week 3 matchup with the Indianapolis Colts.

There has tons of speculation about whether Wentz should replace Nick Foles as the starting quarterback in Philly once he's cleared to play. After their sloppy Week 1 victory against the Atlanta Falcons, Foles hasn't solidified his case to keep the job, via Josh Alper of NBC Sports.

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said he would “investigate that a little bit more and see where and why and when that came out” without saying when he thought Wentz would be cleared for contact. That investigation may not need to go on too long if another report on Sunday is on the money.

Wentz was a top candidate for MVP as the driving force behind the Eagles' success for most of the 2017 NFL season. He looked good warming up on the field on Thursday night earlier this week and has been confident in his performance during 11-on-11 drills in practice. Wentz has been sporting a brace to protect the leg he had ACL and LCL surgery on this offseason. While he's had a few slips ups, he hasn't let it deter him.

The Eagles may have their hands full in their away matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2. While the Bucs will be without their starting quarterback Jameis Winston, his backup Ryan Fitzpatrick has looked impressive in his use of their depth at the wide receiver position. DeSean Jackson and Mike Evans will put pressure on Foles to score. Once the Eagles get all their top receivers healthy, they should be able to put together a consistent passing attack.
