Former Mercedes vice-president Norbert Haug shares his honest take amid the rumors of a possible Audi or Porsche F1 entry.

Despite the presence of massive car manufacturers as teams in F1, talks of both these German brands owned by Volkswagen joining the paddock have emerged recently. Haug, who is an experienced F1 executive, gives an optimistic comment on this possibility.

“That would be wonderful for everyone interested in Formula 1,” he told Sky Deutschland.

“It just underlines how right and important it was that we at Mercedes did this with our own team more than 10 years ago under much more favourable financial conditions at the time and have been doing well ever since – even if it doesn’t work out with the eighth title win in a row in 2021.”

In the past, it was proven that a massive car brand and manufacturer spearheading a team does not automatically merit success within F1, as seen in BMW, Lamborghini, and Jaguar's failure in the sport.

This comment by Haug can be a surprise to some fans because profitable brands such as Audi and Porsche can possibly yield as Mercedes' threat to their success. Nevertheless, he believes that these brands can be of service to the sport and F1 as a whole.

But as of now, what plagues the sport this decade would be Mercedes' and Lewis Hamilton's sheer dominance in F1.
