The future of Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley with the Atlanta Falcons isn't looking very bright at the moment, but he appears to have just dropped an intriguing hint with regards to his intention to continue playing football.

It could be remembered that the Falcons wideout played in only five games in the 2021 NFL season after Ridley declared that he would be leaving the game indefinitely because of mental health reasons. Ridley's absence was a blow to the already struggling offense of the Falcons that finished just 26th in the league with only 18.4 points per game.

Atlanta had lost a huge weapon downfield prior to the 2021 season when it decided to trade Julio Jone to the Tennessee Titans in June, and the expectation thereafter was that Ridley was going to become the team's top option in the passing attack. Instead, Ridley would only play five games, during which he caught 31 of 52 targets for 281 receiving yards and a couple of touchdown receptions. The Falcons picked up their fifth-year option on Ridley that's worth $11.116 million, but whether he would play again for Atlanta is something that remains up in the air — notwithstanding his recent tweet.

The Falcons could opt to cut Ridley, but that would mean swallowing an expensive dead cap, so a trade might be an option Atlanta might be considering this offseason, especially given the team's salary cap situation.
