It's been a tough season for the Atlanta Falcons, but they hope to surprise the league by upsetting the New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football. That might be a hard task though, as Cordarrelle Patterson is unavailable due to injury.

According to Adam Schefter, “Cordarrelle Patterson is inactive tonight vs. the New England Patriots.” This is not an ideal situation for the Falcons, as Patterson has been the driving force for this offense this season.

Atlanta was already the underdog in this matchup, but with Patterson sidelined, there is little reason to believe the Falcons can pull off the upset. Matt Ryan and Kyle Pitts have to be at their best. Meanwhile, it's time for Mike Davis to step up in the backfield and provide consistency in the run game.

Unfortunately, the Patriots have a sturdy defense and will look to take advantage of the hobbled Falcons. We'll see how this one plays out, but things aren't looking good for Atlanta. With New England hitting their stride recently, this Thursday Night Football game could get ugly rather quickly.

Cordarrelle Patterson is in the ninth season of his career. He hasn't been much of a factor until this season. He's become a reliable source of production for the Falcons, as he has recorded 776 total yards from scrimmage and seven total touchdowns for Atlanta this year.

It'll be interesting to see how the Falcons adjust without Patterson in the lineup. Look for Atlanta to rely on the passing game, as Kyle Pitts is a mismatch nightmare for the Patriots. Additionally, we could see someone like Russell Gage or Olamide Zaccheaus step up. This is a big opportunity for the Falcons to find a hidden weapon stashed in the depth chart.
