Over the last couple of weeks, Atlanta Falcons star linebacker Deion Jones' recovery from a broken foot has progressed quite a bit.

Jones returned to the practice field after being activated to the active roster earlier this week, giving plenty of credence that he is nearing his return. The 24-year-old touched upon it on Wednesday by stating that he is “close” to being back in action, according to D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“Close,” Jones said on Wednesday when asked for a percentage on when he would return from a broken foot.

There were initially reports that he could be back on the field for Week 11 action against the Dallas Cowboys, but head coach Dan Quinn has stopped a little short of that this week, voicing that the team is going to take the precautionary route with the situation.

At the same time, it is clear Jones is nearing his return since he has been put back on the active roster. This may be more about Jones getting his legs under him in practice after an extended time away from the field. Jones has proven to be a huge piece to the puzzle in the front seven that has helped set the tone for the defense.

He has been on the injured reserve since suffering a foot injury in the 18-12 season opener loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Jones is coming off earning his first Pro Bowl nod last year after racking up a career-high 138 tackles along with three interceptions. His return in the second half of the season should provide the Falcons defense with a much-needed boost to help their playoff push in what will likely be a tight race down the stretch in the NFC.
