The Atlanta Falcons have made it clear to Pro Bowl wide receiver Julio Jones that the team will not conduct a restructured deal with him at any moment this offseason. This has brought clarity to the situation with Jones deciding to end his holdout by showing up to training camp earlier this week.

With that in mind, Chris Mortensen of ESPN is reporting that Falcons have revised his deal that will give him an additional $2.9 million toward his 2018 salary as a sign to show that both sides will renegotiate the contract next offseason.

Julio Jones' revised contract with the Atlanta Falcons will net him an additional $2.9 million in 2018 and an assurance that the team will conduct good-faith negotiations on another extension in 2019, according to league sources.

Jones received a $4.4 million signing bonus that was previously part of his scheduled base salary in 2019. The All-Pro receiver agreed to lower his base salary from $10.5 million to $9 million for the net of an additional $2.9 million this season, sources said.

Jones will make $13.4 million in 2018 instead of $10.5 million. None of the money is incentivized.

This is likely what led to Jones agreeing to come back at the start of training camp as he did receive a bit of a pay increase that did give him some incentive to return. This is all hinging on the Falcons holding their word on reworking his deal next offseason that will then only have two years left on the five-year, $71.2 million contract.

Jones is likely looking for further security on his deal to extend it a few more years while being possibly paid the highest amount at his position. The manner in which Odell Beckham Jr.'s extension with the New York Giants is being handled could impact how much the 29-year-old will seek from Atlanta. He has certainly put himself in the position to earn a lucrative payday behind elite production with more than 80 catches and 1,400 receiving yards in each of the last four seasons.

For the time being, this minor revised 2018 salary puts a cap on the situation until next offseason where the contract talks will be a top priority for the Falcons.
