Matt Ryan of the Atlanta Falcons has made well over $250 million via contracts over the course of his storied 12-year quarterback career. Despite that lofty total, it pales in comparison to the contract extension that Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs recently inked: 10 years, $503 million.

Ryan spoke to Vaughn McClure of ESPN about Mahomes' contract as well as the state of being an NFL quarterback in 2020.

“Man, it’s a good time to be a QB in the NFL, right? I’m happy for him, Ryan said of Mahomes. He’s an unbelievable player; has had an unbelievable career so far. For him to kind of have that long-term security… like I said it’s a good time to be a QB in this league.’’

Certainly, even middling quarterbacks are being given mammoth contracts, which makes Ryan’s statements prescient.

However, the former third overall pick in the 2008 NFL draft is far from middling and is still one of the best quarterbacks in the league at age 35.

A four-time Pro-Bowler, Ryan’s name is littered throughout the history books in terms of career accomplishments. He is ninth all-time in passes completed in NFL history with 4,460, 1oth in passing yards with 51,186, 11th in pass attempts with 6817, 11th in passing touchdowns with 321, eighth in game-winning drives with 38 and sixth in pass completion percentage with a lofty 65.4 percent.

While Ryan’s career earnings will never reach the stratospheric heights of the current reigning Super Bowl MVP’s, he’s made his fair share in the course of an extremely productive career.
