The Atlanta Falcons are clearly in a rebuilding mode. They traded away former league MVP Matt Ryan during the offseason. The Falcons are in a division with Tom Brady and the Buccaneers. So, obviously it's all about the future. Well, Atlanta made another move Friday that points in that direction.

The Falcons completed a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders to acquire wide receiver Bryan Edwards.

According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the Raiders are sending the Falcons Edwards and a seventh-round draft pick in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick.

Edwards has played two seasons in the NFL after being drafted 81st (third-round) in the 2020 NFL Draft. His rookie year, Edwards did not see much time on the playing field. However, in the wideout's sophomore season, he took a big step forward. He played all 17 games, reeling in 34 catches for 571 yards and three touchdowns.

What really stands out is his ability to stretch the field. The newest Falcons wideout averaged 16.8 yards per catch and among his 34 catches, 26 went for first downs. Atlanta was in need of a wide receiver that can take the top off of the defense.

Last season, once Calvin Ridley was suspended for the season, stud tight end Kyle Pitts was really the only option in the passing game. The Falcons drafted Drake London out of USC with the eighth overall pick in this year's draft. Adding Edwards to the wide receiver room should give Marcus Mariota and possibly Desmond Ridder some options in the passing game.
