The New York Giants’ new addition may be lost for the year before he even got fully started. Cornerback Sam Beal, whom the team drafted during this month’s supplemental draft, has suffered a shoulder injury that could potentially end his season, per Dianna Russini of ESPN.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network adds that Beal suffered a dislocation following a “weird practice accident.” Paul Schwartz of the New York Post notes that the Giants are still considering treatment options but that a season-ending surgery appears the most likely outcome.

Beal suffered the injury on his right shoulder, which he has had trouble with in the past. He just had surgery on that shoulder in February 2017, per NJ.com.

Losing Beal is a huge blow for the Giants, who gave up next year’s third-round pick in order to pick him in the supplemental draft. The 21-year-old is a big-time prospect with impressive coverage skills. He was expected to play significant snaps this year and help improve a Giants pass defense which was ranked second to last in the NFL last year.

With Beal likely gone for the season, the Giants will now have to turn to the likes of William Gay, Donte Deayon, B.W. Webb, and some undrafted rookies and long shots to provide depth at corner this season behind starters Janoris Jenkins and Eli Apple.
