With the departure of superstar wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., the New York Giants have a wide-open competition when it comes to their receiving corps. According to reports from early minicamp battles, it seems as if Corey Coleman is in line to become one of the more trusted guys on the team.

In a report from NJ.com’s Ryan Dunleavy regarding position battles at the upcoming Giants training camp, he notes that Coleman is likely the front-runner for becoming the No. 3 receiver option for the Giants.

With Coleman re-signing with the Giants in the offseason, he finished the season as the most likely choice coming into the offseason, and that seemingly hasn’t changed.

Although Coleman only tallied five receptions last year during his time with the Giants, he still does possess the talent of a first-round pick, and could be looking to show the Giants why he was initially drafted in the first round.

According to Dunleavy, Coleman seems to have the edge as the Giants prepare for training camp, noting that Cody Latimer has fallen off a bit since a hot start at minicamp.

It is important to note, however, that Dunleavy also thinks rookie receiver Darius Slayton has a chance to leapfrog Coleman.

After a very strong bounce-back effort during rookie minicamp, Slayton has reportedly shown the type of speed that the Giants are looking for.

While the Giants would likely love the receiving group to be as talented as possible, it has been reported that they’re looking for a deep threat on the field, and both Coleman and Slayton could offer them that should they make the cut.
