Golden Tate lost his appeal of a suspension by the NFL for a violation of the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs. Just because the New York Giants receiver will miss the first four games of the season and the paychecks that come with them, though, hardly means he's done protecting his good name.

Tate revealed that he's considering suing the doctor who prescribed him Clomid, a fertility drug that's on the league's list of banned substances, because he was told the medication wouldn't put him at risk of suspension. The doctor in question apparently gave the drug to other players, too.

“Initially the doctor said it was not a banned substance. In fact, he had given it to other NFL players, which I trusted it and kept living my life,” Tate said after Wednesday's practice, per Ryan Dunleavy of NJ.com.

“I was out to dinner one night with a guy who works for me and we were talking about another player who got suspended for something completely different. A light kind of just went off in my head, ‘Let me call the doctor and make sure just to make myself feel better.’ I asked him what the active ingredient was, and we looked it up right then and there and sure enough it was a banned substance.”

Tate signed a four-year, $37 million deal with the Giants in free agency after finishing last season with the Philadelphia Eagles. He was traded from the Detroit Lions to the Eagles in exchange for a third-round draft pick midway through the 2018 season. He never quite lived up to the hype during his time in Philadelphia, though, finishing with 30 catches for 278 yards – averaging a substandard 9.3 yards per reception – and one touchdown in eight games.
