After appealing the suspension that was handed down to him earlier in the offseason, New York Giants wide receiver Golden Tate will now officially end up having to miss out on the first four games of the 2019 regular season, as the team announced that he lost his appeal to the league.

Tate was initially suspended earlier this offseason for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy, and while Tate seemed open about the issue throughout the ordeal, it didn't help when it came to the appeal. While some thought that Tate had the chance of getting his suspension reduced, the odds of him winning his appeal always seemed somewhat small.

The suspension comes as a result of failed drug test in April, in which Tate says that a drug he was prescribed from a fertility planning specialist contained an item on the leagues banned substance list.

According to Tate, he reported the drug to the independent administrator of the NFL right away, but unfortunately for Tate, it seems as if his early detection of the drug didn’t matter, as the NFL’s drug policy does state that players are responsible for what they take.

Now, the Giants will have to move forward without one of their biggest offseason acquisitions for the first four games of the season.

It’s a big blow to a Giants team already suffering from a lack of talent throughout the offense.

Without Tate, the Giants receiving corps looks even more barren, as a wave of injuries struck the team early in training camp, culminating with Corey Coleman tearing his ACL, and Sterling Shepard breaking his thumb.
