It is no secret that the New York Giants have bolstered their personnel on the offensive side of the ball this offseason. Among their notable moves was the signing of former New England Patriots left tackle Nate Solder.

However, it appears not everyone is excited about the move. The Giants have had some trouble getting last year's left tackle Ereck Flowers acquainted with the team this offseason.

According to Ralph Vacchiano of SNY, safety Landon Collins says the move to sign Solder cut Flowers deep.:

“He’s just unhappy that they picked up [Solder],” Collins said. “That’s it.”

Although Collins can sympathize with his teammate due to the turmoil from last season, he insists that Flowers should keep pushing forward.

“Ereck is my boy. At the same time, he has a lot to learn, and at the same time he has to work harder. He came in last year, he thought he did what he needed to do — he lost weight, he was in proper shape, thought he played good in the first couple of games and just kind of went downhill when the season went downhill. After being a first-round draft pick, he don’t want to be called a bust.”

New York took Flowers with the ninth overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, he has done little to prove that he is not a bust up to this point. Flowers was among the players whose performance dipped tremendously amidst the team's disastrous 2017 campaign.

Now that the Giants have brought in a new coaching staff, it is clear they felt compelled to fortify one of the most important positions in football. It goes without saying that Solder is as solid an option as there is in this league.

That said, there is not much time for Flowers to be sulking. New York recently declined his fifth-year option, which means he will be an unrestricted free agent in 2019. If he wants to continue his playing career elsewhere, Flowers will have to make his bones as the team's right tackle this season.
