Free-agent linebacker Markus Golden, most recently of the New York Giants, does not seem to have any takers on the open market.

According to Ralph Vacchiano of SNY, the 29-year-old edge rusher, who just completed his fifth NFL season, could land back with the Giants in 2020 with little to no interest from other franchises.

The status of Golden is basically unchanged. He’s still a free agent and, since the Giants put the “May 5 tender” on him, he’s only got until July 22 (or the first day of the first NFL training camp, whichever is later – and that may turn out to be July 28) to find a new team, otherwise his only option is to sign a one-year, $4.125 million deal with the Giants.

And there is no indication that any other team is interested in signing him for more than that.

It’s always possible someone has talked to him or his agent, of course, and that we just don’t know it. But I think it’s clear that if someone wanted Golden for more than that amount he would’ve signed already. He’s been a free agent now for 3 ½ months and that red-line price of $4.125 million has been set for two of them. Everyone knows the deal, but no other team has stepped up.

Golden arrived in New York as a free-agent signing in the spring of 2019, inking a one-year, $3.75 million deal with the G-Men following four seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. The Missouri product was selected in the second round of the 2015 draft by the Cardinals, with his best year coming in his sophomore campaign with Arizona in 2016, recording 51 combined tackles and 12.5 sacks.

In his first season with the Giants, Golden amassed a career-high 72 combined tackles along with 10 sacks and 13 tackles for losses in 16 games.
