One of the central focuses around the New York Giants through much of this offseason has been the contract situation with Pro-Bowl wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

There has yet to be any clarity on when a new extension will be worked with the 25-year-old who is in the fifth-year option of his rookie deal that will pay him roughly $8.4 million for the 2018 season. According to Ralph Vacchiano of SNY, the state of the contract talks has remained stagnant at this point in time.

Right now, according to multiple sources, there has been no movement at all in negotiations and no indication at all that a new deal is close.

This may not necessarily be the best news at this juncture, but there is plenty of time for things to change dramatically before the start of training camp next month. In fact, that is the reported target goal from Beckham Jr. to utilize these next few weeks before the team reconvenes in mid-July to hammer out a new deal.

It has been a process that hasn't had any significant push forward at any point over the last few months on both sides. Conversely, Beckham Jr. has stated publicly that he wants a new lucrative extension, but the Giants have remained firm on working on it when they believe the time is best to do so.

With that in mind, this time frame until the start of training camp could be what both sides need in order to get the conversation going once again to work toward getting the star wideout under contract for the long haul in New York as a centerpiece offensively.

However, the longer this situation continues to linger on, the greater amount of attention it will garner the closer it draws to the regular season.
