After being present for the start of OTAs last week, New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was not in attendance for Tuesday's session. However, Giants coach Pat Shurmur said he knew his star wideout would not be there, per ESPN’s Jordan Raanan. Shurmur also said OBJ is “pretty close” to being fully cleared to participate.

Beckham is still working his way back from the broken ankle he suffered last October which cost him a good chunk of the season.

Despite the fact that he still hasn’t received the long-term contract he’s been looking for, Beckham has reported to the team’s offseason workout program as well as last week’s OTAs. Shurmur said last week that Beckham was “chomping at the bit” to do more on the field and it seems he’s about to be able to do just that.

Having Beckham back to full capacity should be a big boost for the Giants as they look to recover from last year’s disastrous season without OBJ. Eli Manning clearly suffered without his No. 1 receiving option so he should be eager to work with Beckham again.

The Giants are set to hold their mandatory minicamp on June 12-14. While Shurmur was not specific about how close “pretty close” means, there is a decent chance that Beckham will finally get that clearance sometime before the start of minicamp. But given Beckham's importance, the team will likely err on the side of caution and bring him along slowly even if he does get the all-clear from doctors.
