The San Francisco 49ers are coming off an impressive 2023-24 season. San Francisco was the top team in the NFC and the Super Bowl 58 runner-up. Nevertheless, the 49ers considered a 2024 draft-day trade that could have included star receivers Deebo Samuel or Brandon Aiyuk. Terrell Owens gave his thoughts on the WRs' rumors, and he was not fond of SF's potential plans.

Owens joined “The Morning Roast” on 95.7 The Game (KGMZ-FM) on Monday to express his discontent with Samuel and Aiyuk's rumors. The former 49ers receiver said he would be “pissed off” if he were in Samuel and Aiyuk's shoes, per SF Gate.

The Hall of Fame receiver drew upon his experience with San Francisco to illustrate his concerns.

“Look what happened to me in ‘03,” Owens said. “They traded me without even consulting or giving me any kind of heads-up. They tried to ship me to Baltimore.”

Terrell Owens spent the first eight years of his career with the 49ers, amassing three All-Pro and three Pro Bowl honors. Thus, he felt blindsided by the 49ers trade plans.

“Everybody realizes and knows what I did in San Francisco for eight years. They chose to kind of make Jeff Garcia the priority when I was the one moving the chains when I was there in San Francisco. Those guys have the right, the prerogative, to feel the way that they feel,” Owens said.

The star receiver ended up going to the Philadelphia Eagles, but he does not want Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk to end up in the same situation as him.

Samuel and Aiyuk have been highly productive for the 49ers during their tenure. Keeping them on the roster could bode well for the team as they try to get closer to winning another Super Bowl.

Why 49ers should run it back with Samuel and Aiyuk

Deebo Samuel joined the 49ers in 2019 when the team selected him in the second round of the Draft. After two seasons, he took a giant leap. Samuel amassed a career-high 1,405 yards along with five touchdowns, earning his first All-Pro and Pro Bowl selections during the 2021-22 season.

Samuel has not been able to get back to that level of production, but he is coming off his best season since. The 28-year-old totaled 892 yards and seven TDs in 2023-24. When he returns for 2024-25, he should be a reliable offensive weapon.

Samuel's slightly younger counterpart Brandon Aiyuk has been similarly impressive.

Aiyuk joined the 49ers in 2020 and has steadily improved to become one of the best receivers in the NFL. He had a career season in 2023-24. The fourth-year receiver tallied 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns. His upward trajectory is a major reason San Francisco needs to keep him on the roster.

Moreover, the 49ers have a top-five quarterback giving Aiyuk and Samuel support. 2023-24 MVP candidate Brock Purdy is returning to the team after a stellar year of production. He boasted top-five rankings in passing yards, touchdowns, and QBR during the regular season and helped rally the team to their first two 2024 playoff wins.

Gaining more continuity with Purdy, Samuel, and Aiyuk should bode well for San Francisco. It will be interesting to see if the 49ers make any blockbuster trades going into the 2024-25 season. Hopefully, SF's two-star receivers can continue their production and stay on the roster as Terrell Owens alluded.
