When the Giants selected Duke quarterback Daniel Jones with the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, it shocked everyone watching. Not only did many think Jones would still be around later in the first-round for the Giants, they weren’t sure if he should have even been a first-round selection.

According to a stat shared by Pro Football Focus, however, Jones may not be a lost cause just yet.

Taking to Twitter earlier today, Pro Football Focus shared a tweet that showed that Jones had the second-highest passing grade on pressured attempts last season among all of the 2019 NFL Draft class. His 59.7 grade came only second to Kyler Murray’s stellar 79.5, and while Jones’ number is still pretty low, it does show that there weren’t many better passers who were able to avoid pressure.

While Jones was never the talk of the draft until he was picked by the Giants, talk of him being a possible first-round pick gained steam as the draft got closer. During his career at Duke, Jones threw for 8,201 yards, 52 touchdowns, and 29 interceptions, all while completing 59.9% of his passes.

Many seem to think that Jones will need some time to fine-tune his game before stepping onto the NFL field, and thankfully for him, he might get that with the Giants. For the moment, New York seems content with allowing Eli Manning to be their starting quarterback for perhaps one last year. With Manning already showing signs of decline in his storied career, the Giants would likely love to use Jones as their starter in 2020.

Of course, things change fast in the NFL, and if Jones does get playing time and shows that he doesn’t have it, the Giants could be in search of another quarterback next season all over again.
