Saquon Barkley has lived up to the hype this season after being drafted by the New York Giants with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. It was a pick that some thought the Giants wasted with quarterback Sam Darnold on the board. Despite the critics, Barkley has made New York very happy with his play early on.

Against the Carolina Panthers in Week 5, Barkley left everything he had on the field. New York ended up losing 33-31, but the rookie running back did everything in his power to help his team get a big win.

Barkley carried the football 15 times for 48 yards but was able to rack up four receptions for 81 yards and two touchdowns. There was a slight scare at the end of the game when Barkley appeared to injure himself while jumping into the end zone for a touchdown. At first, many thought it was a knee or ankle injury, but it wasn't either of those.

According to a report from Jordan Raanan of ESPN, Barkley had a “random back spasm” during the final play of the game for the Giants.

Did you hear that? That was the sound of New York taking a huge breath of relief. Barkley is too important for the Giants to see him go down with a leg injury just five games into his NFL career.

While back spasms are nothing to joke about, the Giants' rookie should get back on the field quickly.

In the first five games of the season, Barkley has racked up 308 yards and three touchdowns on 71 carries. He has caught 31 passes for 274 yards and two touchdowns.

Very few running backs are as talented as a dual-threat back as Barkley. He is slowly working his way into the conversation with names like Todd Gurley, Le'Veon Bell, and Alvin Kamara, although he has some more work to do before that happens.

Expect to see Barkley come back strong as the Giants' face off against the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday Night Football. His back problems are indeed a concern, but it shouldn't be something that makes too much of an impact on his ability to perform in Week 6.
