Since the end of the 2017 regular season, the New York Giants have gone through much change led by the hiring of new head coach Pat Shurmur.

The Giants have continued to work to build the rest of the coaching staff that includes looking for an offensive coordinator. But according to Jordan Raanan of ESPN, the Minnesota Vikings have denied New York the opportunity to interview quarterbacks coach Kevin Stefanski.

The New York Giants were denied permission to interview and hire Minnesota Vikings quarterbacks coach Kevin Stefanski as their offensive coordinator, a league source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

This is quite a curious move given that Stefanski was recently passed over the Vikings offensive coordinator position with the team electing to go with Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo instead. There had been plenty of hope from Shurmur that he could bring Stefanski over with him to the Giants as the two share a strong working relationship but that scenario hasn't been denied from even getting a chance to happen.

There are other possible coaches available such as former Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell who has been mentioned for a few other openings. Meanwhile, Eagles running backs coach Duce Staley has also recently been brought up as a possible candidate due to his previous experience working alongside Shurmur.

This past season, the Giants struggled tremendously offensively with quarterback Eli Manning coming off a year where he posted just 3,468 passing yards with 19 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Shurmur and whoever will be his offensive coordinator will have the opportunity to work with one of the league’s most dynamic wide receivers in Odell Beckham Jr. He has been steadily progressing through his recovery from a broken ankle and is on track to be ready by training camp well ahead of the start of the 2018 regular season.
