The Memphis Grizzlies announced on Saturday that rookie point guard Ja Morant will be considered week-to-week moving forward after re-aggravating his back on Friday against the Utah Jazz.

Morant originally hurt his back against the Indiana Pacers.

The Grizzlies are clearly going to be careful with Morant since he's the new franchise player in Memphis. Plus, back injuries are not to be taken lightly.

Memphis is 5-13 on the season. The Grizzlies aren’t expected to compete for a playoff spot in the Western Conference. This season is all about developing Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr., Dillon Brooks and Brandon Clarke.

Morant is averaging 18.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game. He’s shooting 45.7 percent from the field, 41.0 percent from beyond the arc and 76.5 percent from the free-throw line.

Ja has three double-doubles on the season. He could wind up winning the Rookie of the Year Award since No. 1 overall pick Zion Williamson has yet to make his debut due to a knee injury which required surgery, although we have to see how this new injury update plays out for Morant.

Morant played 31 minutes on Friday versus the Jazz. He finished with 11 points, three rebounds and four assists. The Grizzlies lost to Utah by nine points.
