It was earlier reported that a fight broke out in the Memphis Grizzlies locker room between teammates Garrett Temple and Omri Casspi following the team's 101-94 home defeat against the Detroit Pistons.

Team cornerstone veterans Marc Gasol and Mike Conley faced the media shortly after the altercation and explained how the heated team meeting turned out to be a productive one, despite things turning ugly between Temple and Casspi.

“It was productive,” Conley said, via Chris Herrington of the Daily Memphian. “It’s not the first talk we’ve had this season. We’ve had plenty of talks as a team. We try to be honest with each other and move forward.”

This is obviously Conley's attempt to de-escalate the situation, as he did not even talk about the actual physical altercation that went down moments earlier.

Then again. He does have a valid point. According to another report, the fight stemmed from an alleged lack of enthusiasm from the Grizzlies bench. Some players may have called out others, and Casspi, in particular, appeared to have taken exception. At the end of the day, it's all about the team's collective desire to win ballgames.

Gasol echoed the thoughts of his long-time teammate.

“We were openly sharing our thoughts and trying to fix the situation,” said Gasol. “Once you lose more than win, frustration builds and you carry those feelings into all the possessions. It’s more of looking into the mirror and trying to see what you can do better to solve the situation instead of pointing out the situation and why it’s wrong. OK, what can I do to fix our defense? Or, what can I do to fix our offense? What can I do to help my teammates out and encourage them and help them accomplish their job?”

The defeat against the Pistons was the Grizzlies' third straight loss, and their eighth in the last 10 games. Hopefully, this fiasco lights a fire under the entire team, as they look to improve on their current 18-19 record.
